An e-scooter rider who died on a Victorian road is believed to have been hit and killed by a black ute and the driver is yet to be located. The 31-year-old was riding on Forster St in Norlane, Geelong, just before 7pm on December 11. At the time it was believed he fell from the scooter while not wearing a helmet and died. But on Friday, police revealed they are now treating the death as a hit and run and are searching for the driver of a ute.
Detectives have seized the black 2007 Holden Rodeo utility believed to be involved, but the registered owner has said they were not in possession of the vehicle at the time of the hit and run. On Friday, police released CCTV footage of the e-scooter rider just before he was hit, showing him travelling down the road with the ute a short distance behind him. Police have urged anyone with information to contact them as they try to figure out who was driving the vehicle at the time.
