Gen.G took a 3-1 win in the grand final of MSI, with Bilibili Gaming struggling to match them despite being in front of a home crowd in China. However, the result was not a massive surprise given how strong Gen.G had been all tournament.
Entering the event as the top seed from the LCK, Gen.G were a favorite to win the event from the start. The roster is seen as something of a super team inand has lived up to that billing. In the opening round of the MSI bracket stage, they took down European side Fnatic 3-0 before beating Top Esports 3-2 in the next round.
Then they matched up against Bilibili for the first time in the winner's bracket final and took a reasonably convincing 3-1 win to secure a spot in the final. However, many expected Bilibili to learn from this defeat and come back stronger if they could make it to the final.in the upper bracket before being sent down to the lower bracket for a rematch with T1 to see who could make it to the final. They again took them down in a close 3-2 series to set up the rematch with Gen.G in the final.
The final started out very one sided, with Gen.G taking a convincing victory in the first two games where they rarely looked troubled. Game three did go Bilibili’s way where they took an early lead and never let it go, and then game four turned from what should have been a simple Gen.G win to an epic game off the back of a big Baron steal from Bilibili.
