by JULIAN BARON | The National DeskWASHINGTON, DC - MAY 23: U.S. President Joe Biden participates in a joint press conference with Kenyan President William Ruto in the East Room at the White House on May 23, 2024 in Washington, DC. The number of Democrats with a positive view of the American economy is slipping despite the White House's messaging about promising trends in wages and prices, a new Pew Research survey found.just 37% of Democrats think the economy is in good or excellent shape.

White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre reminded reporters of "macroeconomic progress," including wage and price improvement, during a May 15 press conference, but conceded there are still many American families that are "struggling." We’re going to continue to fight inflation. We’re going to continue to be really focused on that. And that’s what you’re going to see from this administration," Jean-Pierre said.

President Biden often takes aim at former President Trump for the unemployment spike during his presidency, but Trump defenders have pointed out that job loss was fueled by the COVID-19 pandemic. “The previous administration lost more jobs on its watch than any administration since Herbert Hoover. That's a fact,” President Biden said during a 2022 appearance in Cleveland.
