The death of 78-year-old woman is being treated as a domestic violence homicide with her elderly husband under police guard in hospital and no other suspects being sought. Officers were called to a home in Gordon in Canberra’s south for a welfare check after reports of a disturbance about 7.30am on Sunday. They found the body of the woman inside her Togo Place home.

“At this stage the husband is obviously helping us with our inquiries and due to that familial relationship, we are treating this as a family violence incident,” he said. “Incidents like this are tragic and my heartfelt sorrow goes out to the friends and family. “If you think there are issues with mental or physical health, particularly as people get into their elder years, reach out and talk to someone and get the assistance they need to avoid situations like this.
