Retired AFL champion Tom Rockliff has shown off a five-month transformation after dropping nearly 15kg since January, as he begins a push-up challenge to raise funds for mental health. The former Brisbane captain and Port Adelaide player called time on his All Australian career at the end of 2021 following injury setbacks and a sudden health battle. He damaged both knees during a game in May that year and underwent surgery but was rushed back into hospital when he developed deep vein thrombosis.
“I looked in the mirror and was disappointed in myself,” Rockliff said. The dual Lions best and fairest winner, weighed in at 103.2kg — nearly 20kg more than his listed weight during his AFL career. He is now down to 89.9kg. Rockliff said he has put a new emphasis on exercise and diet. “I was eating too much and not burning it,” he wrote. He aims to complete a body-weight circuit six times a week.
