Elected members on the Finance and Corporate Resources Committee agreed to write off a whopping £3,251,699.83 of irrecoverable debts.
The proposed write-off of Council Tax accounts date from the financial years 1993/1994 to 2023/2024 and totals £2,196,799.14. This relates primarily to prescribed debt, sequestrations and estates of the deceased. A total of £201,349.17 is being written off for former tenant rent arrears as well as factoring arrears of £203.68 and £43,114.23 of housing benefit overpayments.
‘A Non-Domestic Rates collection target of 97.0 per cent was set for 2023/2024. A NDR collection of 97.8 per cent was achieved, ahead of target by 0.8per cent and equal to comparable performance in 2022/2023.
