A man has been charged over an alleged violent assault in which valuable gold jewellery was ripped from a victim who was startled awake by strangers storming his bedroom. The 68-year-old man was attacked with “blunt items” including a metal pole about 4am on Tuesday when an unknown number of men broke into his King George St home in Innaloo, Perth, police said.
The man contacted a neighbour and police were called to the home but by then the gang had fled. The man victim was taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital with significant bruising and grazes to his face, arms, ribs and left leg. He was discharged later on Tuesday but police said he was “extremely traumatised”. A 29-year-old Butler man has been charged with aggravated home burglary, aggravated armed robbery and aggravated assault occasioning bodily harm.
