Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis said he was encouraged by President Cyril Ramaphosa's opening of Parliament speech, detailing increased investment in public infrastructure.

CAPE TOWN - Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis on Thursday addressed the city council to announce an advocacy agenda for the Government of National Unity .

The mayor said that he'd already sent out detailed memorandums to all the ministers in the new government, detailing what the City of Cape Town would like to achieve. Hill-Lewis said he was encouraged by President Cyril Ramaphosa's opening of Parliament speech, detailing increased investment in public infrastructure.

He said it means that the city and GNU appear to be aligned on a number of important issues, including efforts to stimulate growth and create jobs."I briefed council today on Cape Town's Advocacy Agenda for the new Government of National Unity. We're excited about the opportunity for major reforms that will benefit Capetonians and Cape Town and especially lower-income homes," Hill-Lewis said.

The mayor said he has already had positive engagements with ministers on many of the issues on the city's agenda.
