Nigeria’s detention of a U.S.-based journalist has sparked calls back home for his release and illustrates the country’s escalating media crackdown

Few people outside Nigeria noticed when armed agents of the west African nation’s security services in August snatched from his hotel room a U.S.-based journalist and activist who runs an online news website.

Now the State Department and U.S. lawmakers are calling for the release of Omoyele Sowore, framing the case as a test of the democratic credentials of Africa’s largest economy and one of America’s top counterterrorism allies.

Nigeria has never been big on the rule of law. On a good day it’s institutions are incompetent and wholly corrupt. This is just business as usual.

They need to be shamed for this call BernieSanders

sowore is an oppositional tool, I guess he is harvesting his reward. He had collected money

The government of Nigeria will stop at nothing to silence the voice of the people.

IF HE IS ONE OF THE SWAMP I HOPE THEY KEEP HIM WE HAVE ENOUGH LIERS ALREADY. OR BETTER YET HANG HIM

Should we be afraid? With realDonaldTrump rhetoric and his attack on the media....are we heading in that direction?
