6PR's Oliver Peterson says the government needs to 'kiss the budget surplus goodbye' and focus on “stimulating the economy” and “looking after small businesses”. His comment responds to fears Australia is at risk of falling into recession from the coronavirus as the government prepares a multi-billion dollar economic stimulus package which will focus heavily on tax relief measures.

“There are a lot of people running around like headless chooks and stocking up on toilet paper,” Mr Peterson said. The government needs to sell the message that “it is still business as usual”. "Josh Frydenberg and Scott Morrison have a huge responsibility to the Australian people and to local businesses in particular,” Mr Peterson said. Despite Labor’s decision to “play politics,” Mr Frydenberg said he didn’t mind Labor’s suggestion to bring forward personal income tax cuts.
