Dr Noy says it's too early to know just how big the economic impact will be.
He says it also isn't as simple as the countries with the most cases being the most economically affected. "[With SARS] it was really not to predict what the number would be, but to demonstrate to the world that there are so many potential pandemics coming from zoonotic diseases and we're not spending enough on dealing with this," he says.
"The key issue [with SARS] was, how long do people expect it will last? And how confident are they in the government's response?" he says.
