US President Donald Trump’s announcement that the United States is extending the travel ban to Europe on Thursday was “not inspiring at all,” according to US Studies Centre Non-Resident Fellow James Brown. In addition to the travel ban, the president also annouced the White House would provide economic relief in the form of low interest loans for small business and payroll tax relief, however was not well-received by the markets.
Mr Brown told Sky News Trump was “really being hemmed in at the moment” and was “not in an environment that is his natural turf”. “He is very conscious this virus and crisis plays into what the Democrats are talking about, their narrative on a failing health care system and… on an economic system that has left a lot of workers behind,” he said. “[Trump] has got to act on that and right now is looking politically vulnerable.
