OTTAWA — The federal government is rolling out billions of dollars in new financial help targeting hard-hit sectors of the economy, acknowledging that some companies need more support and others are slipping through the safety net of emergency aid meant to help them through the COVID-19 pandemic.
The government hasn’t provided an updated cost estimate for the program since the promised expansion made earlier this week, saying revised numbers depend on how many of those workers are rehired by companies that receive help through a separate $73-billion wage subsidy program that will begin paying out the first week of May.
What they want and need is access to credit, Morneau said, suggesting that government-backed or low-interest loan programs could be used for other sectors in need of extra help, like restaurants, tourism and air travel. There will $1.7 billion sent to Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia to help clean up “orphaned wells” in those oil-producing provinces, and a $750-million fund to cut methane emissions by providing loans to companies.
A further $270 million was pledged for entrepreneurs and early-stage research companies that don’t qualify for the wage subsidy or existing loan programs, yet still need the help. About $20 million will provide 12 months of payment relief for those who have loans from Futurpreneur Canada, a non-profit organization.
Good for the Liberals!!! Reality is that a global economy doesn’t work! We buy everything from China! All the fossil fuels we burn to move all these goods around is what’s causing global warming. Oil isn’t causing global warming, consumerism is!
Once again, they promised aid to Alberta, and didnt give them anything. Fuck Trudeau
