Exclusive: NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet wants students back in classrooms full-time as soon as possible, warning that homeschooling has significantly impacted the state's productivity

NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet wants students back in classrooms full-time as soon as possible, warning that homeschooling has significantly impacted the state's productivity.

Mr Perrottet said research showed that if senior students did not finish their schooling, there may be a correlation with lower productivity over time, which would have an impact on wages. The accommodation and food services sector makes up more than 7 per cent of employment in NSW but almost one-third of those businesses are not trading.Loading

One of my staff was forced to resign and go on the dole - single mom with 3 kids - she can’t work from home even when the they’re all home schooling. The government has ruined her life 👎😡 GetBackToWork

Costello Enterprises. Competing with Newscorpse for government arselicking contracts.

$ before People

Impact on wages? They’ve been falling for 7 years under the LNP.

yes, because we now depend on both parents working - spend and spend and spend, get yourselves into debt so you cant stay home, and want all those consumer goodies to be a proper person. gak.

So return to school about economic, not health, focus. So we’re expendable? Great. When’s the next election?

Absolute bs. Every study of NZ students after their Earthquake saw no loss in learning despite extensive home learning.

Ffs Corona virus has impacted our productivity

It’s not fucking homeschooling, teachers are setting the work .... JFC

Nope

Interesting - since telemed/telehealth was rapidly implemented during the COVID, it has been demanded for more(even after pandemic) ;but why not online school for now(still in the pandemic) ?

A treasurer! Yeah that’s who I usually call for advice in a pandemic! 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Imagine the jubilation when you make your final mortgage payment on your family home! The Australian dream! The government is planning you will never be free from home payments. A continuous rent (land tax) paid to the govt is actively being considered! GladysB Sydney NSW

12.5% fall in labour supply exactly = half households without a spare parent at home - looks like a total guess by NSW Treasury to me Dom_Perrottet ! And I don't trust it as kids can already go to school if parents need to go out to work. AlexSmithSMH MattWadeSMH

Beep beep. Productivity levels in danger. Must return drones to work now. Beep beep.

Acknowledging that he thinks of schooling as nothing more than childcare and that economics are more important that protecting people. Great stuff

It’s not home schooling

Homeschooling definition inaccurately used again. Parents actually think they are 'homeschooling' their children. leighsales GladysB

Once the kids are back in classrooms, Covid_19 cases will most likely increase. There is no way to stop the kids from mingling and any person who works with kids knows that they are little germ carrier machines concerned

Do we live in a community or do we work robotically in an economy? Is the economy a subsection of the community or the community a subsection of the economy?

At least he’s honest about why. It’s got nothing to do with health or education. It’s about the economy

As Active Covid19 shuts a Vic school. Stay the course Dan Andrews.

Whiteanting his boss.... gold Lib stuff!

The stay at home bit is denting the economy all round. Why are schools magically different though? Outbreak in a VIC & NZ school very recently 🤷🏻‍♂️ I get the rationale but the msg is inconsistent.

If people don’t want to send their children to school, then don’t. Keeping schools closed will also reduce medical staff who will be forced to stay home to look after their kids. Do we want our hospitals under resourced during a pandemic?

*remote learning

Only if you have no new infections and the virus is under control. Whilst you have new infections and it isn't under full control, opening up will lead to a second wave and further tragedies.

Listen to health experts.. not the treasurer.

How productive are dead people, Dominic?

Two words: HEALTH FIRST. Sorry, but worst-affected state NSW must cop some inconvenience to protect the health of others in NSW and (once borders reopen) the rest of Australia. NSW's current daily case stats are piss-poor compared to much of Australia. We must do our part.

Finally, an honest politician! We all knew there was a hidden economic agenda. Now we know the true value of teachers.

LNP talk the talk but in the end it is always comes down to the bottom line

He is spot on.

Here we go again. Schools and teachers seem to be the preferred whipping boy of conservative governments. Just do your job and let teachers (following the direction of your government), do theirs.

A treasurer is the last person I’m going to listen to about sending kids back to school

Imagine choosing health over the economy! Outrageous. People forget pretty quickly. Let’s hope the second spike doesn’t occur with everyone rushing back.

Politicians who want all children back at school need to set the example and provide proof that their own children are doing the same.

Ironically this advice comes from Treasurer, not heath or education people. We know who leads the country, MONEY. COVID19Aus auspoI

Poor parents

Dom Opus Dei

Right.......so nothing to do with kids not being infectious then. As anyone with a brain guessed, this is a decision made on economics NOT public health. So....feck off and get back to us when NSW has NO NEW CASES.

It's all about the money. Money, money money. If there were all dead people in NSW then how would productivity be impacted? Just like the LNP. Money is far more important than anyone's life.

His kids better be in school as well.

Abhorrent given this situation has been life or death. It’s a scare tactic to justify opening all schools. Propaganda. Home Education and school of the air has been successful for generations. Poor journalism.

Einstein at work DominicPerrottet is a genius

Well if that’s what Dommy wants, we have to make it happen, people!

Australia hasn’t flattened the curve, and you’re moving into winter! WTF is wrong with you?

Who cares about productivity?

Perrottet's recovery plan to axe 'inefficient' stamp duty, payroll taxesExclusive: NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet plans to abolish stamp duty and reform the broader tax system as he faces down a $9 billion hit to the state's bottom line in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. Hope everyone wants to pay 7-10k per annum on the family home when they remove the land tax exemptions. Shocker. Why is NSW govt quietly planning to hit home owners with a massive new land tax? We pay income tax & 10% GST on almost everything we buy (using money we've already paid tax on!) Now govt plans to slug home owners with a land tax that will be charged every year, forever! Sydney Australian dream to pay off a home & live comfortably in older age knowing you have a place to live! Berejiklian govt is looking to make u pay 'rent' through a landtax forever even though your home is paid off! I prefer stampduty than a perpetual new tax! Sydney NSW freedom

NSW to axe stamp duty | Sky News AustraliaNew South Wales is planning to ditch stamp duty and payroll taxes as it faces a $9 billion unemployment hit from the pandemic.\n\nStamp duty is the nation's biggest source of revenue, last year raising $7.5 billion for New South Wales. \n\nTreasurer Dominic Perrottet said there was no better time to get rid of inefficient taxes that held back economic growth. \n\nThe axe is part of a five-point recovery plan focussed on productivity, tax reform, deregulation, trade and investment. \n\nImage: Getty To be replaced with other taxes that will get the govt more income more often. When is it going to be axed? 1 month, 2021 or gradually? In the interim it'll crash the property market more as prospective buyers will put any purchase on hold. That $9 billion unemployment deficit will ballon to $20 billion and in a hurry too so let’s keep it together, let’s be rational and let’s just go on with our day
