The government says a shift away from Chinese manufacturing is inevitable as Australia begins to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.

Industry Minister Karen Andrews said the COVID-19 crisis has given Australia the chance to boost its manufacturing sector which will increase sovereign capabilities and help the

economy recover. Australia could soon begin making high tech devices, medical supplies, pharmaceuticals and food products as the nation begins to shift away from Chinese supply chains.

If an Australian wanted to buy property land or business overseas their government would not allow more than 40% overseas ownership & often none So why does Australia allow lots of overseas ownerships auspol ABCNews wanews wapol SupportLocal supportsmallbusiness Jobs

That's the lesson the pandemic has taught us. The rest of the world should do likewise.

Please let it be so!!!

Not going to happen unless real pressure is applied to both sides of politics. Support Australian Manufacturers by joining AUSMANET. Personal membership is only $50 plus GST Join now on our website:

We should be taking this opportunity to cutting ties with China and looking at Australian made products more and protecting our country and people

This is what everyone should do

This should begin right now whilst the iron is hot.

You can still team up with Vietnam, Philippines Bangladesh and may be India to tap into deficit in local manufacturing. IMO.

Canada must do the same and include the manufacturing of medications

MarkHiggie1 Excellent Why not help to turn the Commonwealth into the greatest free trade area thus supporting not just the rich but those who need a helping hand. No more wealth into totalitarian states

We have to change our culture away from a society that wants to sell each other avacado on toast & post it on instagram. Working in factories needs to be re-engineered, innovation engineers should be revered for changing our world with so much technology & information available

This who coronavirus crap is has always been a trade and power war with China and the USA now Australia is getting on the bandwagon.

But will people be happy with the extra 💵💵💵 they will inevitably have to pay? Or will Gov't subsidise in some way

If people are prepared to pay more it’s a possibility

This is music to my ears.

The government says a shift away from Chinese manufacturing is inevitable as Australia begins to recover from the coronavirus pandemic.

While China has a lot to answer for in all of this yet, I can't help but think that western nations have also been complicit. I find it hard to believe that US intelligence and other nations did not know about the virus when it broke out in China, before it came to greet them.

Bring the industries and manufacturing back to Australia, don't move it to another country with cheap labour

FAKE NEWS are already being made in Australia by Sky 'News'.

Revive Australian manufacturing and support Australian business.

Start manufacturing product in Australia put big tariff on china goods

Does Australia have manufacturing entrepreneurs like China! Australia is nothing but mines and dried-up farms! Without China's supply chains and money, it will be impoverished like hell!

nyholmau Wont happen australians dont want to pay for quality

Great news... But doubt it

Good do it

There goes all k.marts.

Resilience can only be found from within. Be it an individual a business or country For Australia to prosper we need to become resilient We need to stop lazy billionaires and companies selling our raw materials before we value add

You know what? Holden has just closed their last Australia factory not long ago

Good let's bloody hope so,but I doubt too much will change.

Will action follow words? The Free Trade agreement signed wit China gives the ChineseBigots a free path to unfair exchange currency manipulation bring to Australia their own slave Asian workers and infiltrate Government. They also managed to put an ex CPP in Parliament.

Is it toolate for Australia to be more self reliant?

Good. Start doing other trade deals with alternate countries as well. Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, India.

Will never happen. The unions destroyed out manufacturing industry and will do it again, especially when a guy with a year 9 or 10 education expects a 6 figure wage for pressing a button.

Looks like we now know our weekness and moving on from Chinese dominated industry

People buy Chinese products because they are cheap and acceptable quality. Can Australian made products compete in price?

Great words but will the governments do anything like getting rid of pay roll tax

We wont get far manufacturing in Aus relying on all those solar panels for power that we spent billions on from China. That will be defunct in a few years. Also no use stock piling materials in other Countries When China could block all our shipping lanes to the rest of the world

We are one family who will avoid all Chinese products

please wake up! manufacturing needs a full cycle of supply chain, cheap labour, where Australia doesn't have.

Don't just talk about it pleaae

Manufacturing will happen here if govt barriers to entry are reduced. Environmental requirements, three layers of govt to get planning & other permissions & payments to state owned entities to consider if they will let you access power & water. Then you can start business.

Yeah for Australia 🇦🇺!!

I bloody hope so.

We use too make and grow in our great country bring it back it would help with our selfasteam and unemployment issue we have the land factories farms materials mines we can be very selfafishend once again

😂😂😂😂

Clr525Ps If we have any brains at all we will

Yes bring the big salad bowls back and fruit bowls support manufactures like doc dick smith foods. Also the white goods sector but definitely food and food packing to start and then move onto building materials and work from there. Who knows maybe the textile industry returns.

The same government that would rather our submarines are built in France?

The same government that told Holden to go. Are they for real?

LOL

Individuals have changed their mindset already. Buy Australian where possible -If not, then do without if possible -If you have to buy a product buy Taiwanese, Japanese USA ect. We have had temporary lose of freedom and we won’t forget. It’s a China V Freedom battleground

China buys tens times more from us than we spend with them. Australia and a shift to manufacturing is indeed welcome news on the job front, but who in our economy will be able to afford to buy the Australian Products? Our wages are so much higher than Chinese production costs.

Next is to boycott chinese companies that will relocate n change their namez. The war is now personal

With what capacity? Our country hallowed out its manufacturing sector with economic rationalists running the country for 30 years. Its a pathetic statement motivated to 'scare' the Chinese.

Get real! Australian manufacture will not happy to pay $30hr labour because they used to pay $2hr and more efficient capacity, and all the extra labour cost will appear on your price

But Hockey tells Holden to leave.

Here is a little secret: it all depends on price. China won manufacturing due to low price of making goods. Who else can match it?

‘Inevitable’ more like ‘totally necessary’ for the our survival!

News Corp fabricated narrative defending US dysfunctional govt. continues lying to its ignorant, idiot followers by blaming China & deflecting US govt incompetence. Now is sabotaging our economy.

What recover the party hasn’t started yet

Trump puppets Keep talking... India 🇮🇳 3.2% Indonesia 2.7% value of Trade with Australia. We better start treating China Panada bear nicer they account for 27% 🔥🔥🔥🐉🐉🐉

Australia over-reliance on China has been “exposed” by the coronavirus crisis Oxymoron, Gladys Berejiklian wants NSW to B a global manufacturing leader NOT while U have a Zero Emissions plan by 2050 Gladys

So the same political party that shut down the car industry is now in favour of local manufacturing? Yeah, right.

Good we never should have permitted so much dependable on another country

Twiggy won’t agree with that

BringItOn! 🦘

All of the biggest corporations in the world make most of their profits through value adding. In the case of Apple they take a block of metal and turn it in to an iPhone. That’s what Australia needs to do - not just dig the the metal out of the ground and send it to China.

So Australian manufacturers are going to pull up sticks and pay the costs of moving their operations from China to other more expensive countries? Yeah, right.

A shift away from Chinese manufacturing of what? Walk through Bunnings. Walk through Harvey Norman Walk through Coles/Woolworths Walk through David Jones / Spotlight

Yeah go back to Japanese electronics as there are non in the caliber here in Australia.

Maybe Australia could manufacture quality goods themselves.

Good

kbw1001 I hope the same happens here. 'Made in China' - not words I want to see anymore. I'd rather pay double than line those murderers pockets.

Doubtful. But that doesn't mean more local manufacturing - & seeing as we have the resources - no value add. All this means is that corps looking for cheap manufacturing will look elsewhere; e.g. India etc

China government subsidises their exports to make their pricing uncompetitive for local manufacturers to compete in Australia.

Why does everyone go on about the Chinese supply chain ? It’s the Chinese market that gives them leverage, we need them to buy the overpriced apartments the stuff we dig up, meat dairy etc

Awesome
