Businesses such as bookshops and chemists should be able to trade at any time of day, while office buildings could operate bars and galleries in their foyers after hours under an ambitious plan to revive Sydney’s night time economy.
The business lobby group also called for better public transport at night and a Minister for the Night time Economy Mr Ayres said the pandemic had been “extremely damaging” to the economy and many businesses, but had also prompted innovation and ingenuity. “This approach is all about alcohol,” he said. “We also want a broader discussion about music, entertainment and tourism, all the things that make a city great.”
Mr Schlothauer said the pandemic restrictions have caused a 98.5 per cent drop in revenue, with 41 staff stood down and trade limited to takeaway cocktail sales at two of his company’s three bars in Surry Hills and Terrigal.“Most of the opportunities are during the day, as the city is a ghost town by 8pm,” he said. Mr Schlothauer said pandemic restrictions will have a “devastating impact” on the commercial viability of venues if maintained.
Parra? Sure if you want to get shot
Not this 'night-time economy' nonsense again. No one wants to go to a bookshop at 11pm...And with Covid-19 still not defeated I'd suggest we won't need more small bars for a very long time.
We already hv emergency chemist at Hornsby n regular cultural n music events The library when it reopens unless hrs are restricted opens to 9pm 4 nights
So after the govt ran the city and economy into the ground by becoming a police state and banning night time entertainment, killing bars and eateries... they are now suggesting to bring bars and eateries to every major suburb to operate 24/7 to stimulate the economy? *facepalm*
