Plans for a two-billion-dollar wind farm designed to add to the energy mix in North Queensland should be promoted, but not at the expense of other energy technologies, according to Queensland Shadow Tourism Minister David Crisafulli.

According to The Townsville Bulletin, “Australia’s biggest wind farm providing low-cost energy for mining and industrial development has been proposed for Hughenden in North Queensland”. The North Queensland Renewable Energy Zone company is responsible for the investment which would create a number of jobs in the region.

Sky News host Peter Gleeson said the wind farm could produce power for the up and coming north-western minerals province which the $1.5 billion CopperString Project transmission link plans to unlock. “Energy is not a binary argument” and Australia should make use of a variety of different energy sources including nuclear, coal, gas and renewables, he said.
