Japan posted its smallest current account surplus in more than five years in June, Ministry of Finance data showed on Tuesday, mainly due to a slump in exports, highlighting the heavy hit to external demand from the coronavirus pandemic.

The current account surplus was 167.5 billion yen , the smallest monthly surplus since January 2015, a finance ministry official said.

Exports plunged 25.7% in June from a year ago, hit hard by falling shipments of cars and car parts to the United States, the data showed. That was slightly smaller than a 28.9% annual decline in May. A 99.9% drop in foreign tourists due to immigration restrictions imposed over the health crisis sent the travel account to a 157.7 billion yen deficit in June, the data showed.

Looks like GM to me. At least try to care about reporting news so people can’t claim news is fake. This type of laziness fuels that narrative because you don’t want to hire a few more employees to find photos for news stories.

You couldn't find a picture of some Japanese cars. Most of those are Cadillacs.

Will it be deflation and/or depression? Just remember to cut China out of your recovery.

It would be a mighty surprise if japan had a record of 5 year high surplus in the coronavirus economy.

Japan really can't seem to get a break between the natural disasters and diplomatic pressures. I feel bad.

The cars in the photo are manufactured in the US btw.
