'The show exposes the extent to which relationships are about trading sex for money—or, less bluntly, love for security.'

Prachi GuptaThe loft apartment is mostly bare. The new tenant, Rebecca Parrott, sleeps on a mattress on the polished concrete floor in the bedroom where her daughter Tiffany’s partner, Micah Smith, is setting up a TV. Parrott has no couch, no bed frame, no TV stand. One thing she does have: photos of her fiancé, Zied Hakimi.

Zied Hakimi greeted Rebecca Parrott at the airport in Tunisia wearing a shirt emblazoned with her photo onSoon, they’ll graduate from the franchise’sshow, now entering its eighth season. The franchise is a ratings juggernaut, with 10-plus spin-offs; according to TLC’s parent company, Discovery Inc., it “is one of the top performers,” making the network “the #1 most-watched in the U.S. among women aged 25 to 54.

The show’s tension is driven by one point: Are they really in love, or do they have ulterior motives? “One of the number-one questions I get is, ‘Is it real?’ ” says Robinson. Cast member David Toborowsky, 52, doesn’t fault viewers for questioning the intentions of couples on the show, including his own and those of his wife, Annie Suwan. Toborowsky met Suwan, 24 years his junior, in Thailand while getting over a divorce, and the pair fell in love.

Producers deny reports that the show is scripted. Alon Orstein, senior vice president of production and development for TLC, says the show’s authenticity is one of its strengths. Other successful shows might be more contrived, with “people being put together; there’s been some sort of matchmaking element,” he says, but “these are people who are finding each other on their own. And we’re finding them and following their journey.

Sharp says that the crew prioritizes the safety of the cast members and would “shut down production” or contact authorities if any violent incident occurred. But the show has aired several troubling moments, including scenes of Anfisa hitting Jorge. In March, fans launched a petition to remove cast member Geoffrey Paschel from the series after he was charged with aggravated kidnapping, domestic assault, interference with an emergency call, and vandalism, which court records show.

90DayFiance Makes us feel better about our lives lol. Some of these ding dongs are sooo crazy and desperate that they get themselves into situations that didn’t EVEN have to happen!!! God Bless America, so blessed!

90DayFiance Por que les encanta ver la vida de gente más miserable que la de ellos

Watching from Sweden also!📺😃

It is not juse USA, it is super popular worldwide. I have heard hairdressers in South Africa discuss the show!

90DayFiance because we love seeing how stupid we actually are 😂😂😂😂

For the same reason people can't look away from a train wreck. Voyers of 'broken' people.

You meant to say the entire world?

Idk, but I was hooked from day one.

I'm Scottish and addicted! I call it my 'no thinking no effort' show lol

I think it's because normally, it's riveting! Some of the couples, people really hope will marry & live great lives. However, this last couple seasons, they have found the worst type of people who make Americans look horrid.

90DayFiance Chaotic disaster 🦹‍♀️ + chaotic good 😇= excellent entertainment

90DayFiance makes me feel goddamn normal.

It’s pure gold!

90DayFiance I love 90 day fiancé because it’s real people who find love and also to see people from different cultures from around the world and this show always delivers the unexpected

90DayFiance Because it is amazeballz duh

90DayFiance Nothing like a good train wreck.

90DayFiance ?

90DayFiance Because we’re nosey. Plus it’s so entertaining! AND the shows engage with the audience it’s so fun I’ve been watching since the beginning of it and thennnn they have all the spinoffs 😂

90DayFiance Great article!

90DayFiance It makes you feel better about yourself knowing that there are other people way more fucked up than you and your life! At least that’s my reason.

90DayFiance Why does an article need to be written about us now? It boosts our egos to see other people making poor decisions. Now go away leave us alone

90DayFiance Funny insanity 😂😂😂😂

90DayFiance Include Canada in that tweet too

I love it for Ed and Rose

90DayFiance Because of toxic Americaninity

theteajunkie_cr

90DayFiance 1. See how the other half live 2. The 19 has given us a lot of down time 3. To see how the “TWIST” I’m married to stacks up, turns out she isn’t so bad and that give me hope to live another day

90DayFiance The Drama and Chaos. We are sick people 😂 We get joy in criticizing people and judging them 🤷🏽‍♂️

90DayFiance coz they see so much of themselves in it

90DayFiance I watch it for the different countries, customs and cultures
