This afternoon, the Trump administration will release new details on an eviction moratorium that it's trying to implement using executive action, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said

The Trump administration Tuesday afternoon will release new details on an eviction moratorium that it's trying to implement using executive action, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin.

In testimony before the House coronavirus subcommittee Tuesday, Mnuchin said the administration planned to announce the information after the financial markets close. He said the action will affect up to 40 million renters but that officials will not be "using money" to implement it. He said the new guidelines will allow for an eviction moratorium for individuals who certify that they can't make rental payments because of coronavirus related issues.

The administration is attempting to implement a moratorium under executive authority as lawmakers and the White House remain at odds over new economic relief legislation. An earlier eviction ban passed by Congress expired at the end of July.
