The government has revealed a list of five new and emerging technologies it is planning to invest in as part of a roadmap to bring down emissions.

Through to 2030, the government said it would invest $18 billion in a bid to unlock further investment for the private sector totalling around $50 billion, and hoped to wipe out 250 million tonnes of emissions by 2040.

The five major investments included clean hydrogen, energy storage, green steel and aluminium, carbon capture and storage, and soil carbon projects Energy Minister Angus Taylor was set to announce the map at the National Press Club later on Tuesday, where he was expected to say “Let’s be clear – there are only two ways to reduce missions”. “You either suppress emissions intensive economic activities, usually through some version of taxation – or you improve them.
