The size of the Army is expected to be reduced by about 10,000 soldiers as part of a move towards robots, drones, and cyber warfare.
As part of the military restructure, the Royal Marines will be transformed into a new Future Commando Force, taking on many of the traditional tasks of the special forces - the SAS and SBS. Cuts to the regular Army might concern allies like the US. The former US Defence Secretary, Leon Panetta, told the BBC: "If I had my way, I'd probably retain the force level in Britain."
The RAF will have fewer F-35 jets than originally planned, with a new fighter - Project Tempest - developed in the UK, boosting jobs.

We no longer have an Army, we now have a defence force which is, frankly, unacceptable. Troop numbers have dropped by over 100,000 in the last 10-15 years after endless reviews, broken promises and guarantees. We can no longer deploy overseas with such pitiful numbers

Cyber is a growing threat and a space we need to operate in. But to ask an already stretched Army to do even more with less (more global ops stated) may lead to retention issues and fewer numbers still.

It is clear that in military terms, Britain is not a great power. It is simply not able to push its own agenda militarily overseas without the aid of other nations. Britain is being forced to negotiate with both international allies and enemies in order to achieve its goals.
