A new federal report shows that solar energy has the potential to power 40% of US electricity by 2035 — without raising costs for consumers.

The Solar Futures Study from the Department of Energy, released Wednesday, shows that by 2035, solar energy has the potential to power 40% of the nation's electricity and employ as many as 1.5 million people — without raising electricity costs for consumers.Though the report shows reaching 40% solar is possible, that goal is contingent on Congress passing legislation that incentivizes renewable energy as well as the widespread adoption of solar power.

The DOE study estimates that wind power could make up 36% of the grid, nuclear could account for around 13%, hydroelectric could make up around 5-6%, and geothermal could account for the remaining 1%. Still, whether that renewable energy transition can happen depends on the amount of tax credits Democrats in Congress can pass in their upcoming budget reconciliation bill.

WHCOS Interesting half-truth. In reality, solar and wind combined could produce 38-40% maximum of energy requirements for 2025. Where do we get the rest? China owns Rare Earth metals now. Batteries for storage? Silly political non-science reporting from CNN. Fools-all of them

Just mandate every roof must have solar panels

Lol!! Which idiots write these reports. It's gona cost alot more. But it's important people must suck it up. Jobs will be lost. But ppl must suck it up

will its pay it self off and cover the cost to rebuild it every 10 years?

If they ever get this going it will be a miracle

So if we use the land for solar panels, what do we use to grow food for our ever increasing populations?

I love how government projects always have to be So Big... Really impressive. But making it easy to put up solar roofs, or cover the tops of warehouses, stores and factories? That isn't impressive enough...

Didn't Iraq Botswana try this once and fail miserably? I swear I've heard/witnessed this story before.
