The former chancellor vows to 'rebuild the economy' as he enters the race to succeed Boris Johnson.

, under the slogan "Ready for Rishi", Mr Sunak said he wanted to "restore trust, rebuild the economy and reunite the country"."Do we confront this moment with honesty seriousness and determination or do we tell ourselves comforting fairy tales that might make us feel better in the moment but will leave our children worse off tomorrow," he asked.

He said the country faced "huge challenges" and that decisions today would determine whether the next generation got "the chance of a better future". Mr Sunak, 42, was an analyst for the investment bank, Goldman Sachs, and was later a partner in two hedge funds, before becoming an MP for the North Yorkshire constituency of Richmond in 2015.

You did a good job as the Chancellor so you will make a great prime minister in my eyes good luck

Launched 6 months ago.

Who trusts a turn coat?.

Another one not to trust , he’s just looking after his own interest , traitor in my eyes

A man who spends more time in California than he does in the UK, avoids paying tax, backed Boris and supported his lies, broke the rules they wrote together. He's got the right credentials then!

No way

Oh there’s a shock…

As if not enough damage has been done already

i'm thinking about it rishi .....where is ben ? Conservative

What a tactic , shame

No! Please spare us the walk of the wicked from Boris Loyalist candidates. Out with the old, sweep the place clean. Those Boris enablers are all TAINTED!

More lucrative state contracts for the family...

I wonder if he will have BorisJohnson as chancellor or minister for fake information

Got to applaud his boldness after his skeleton revelations.

Another rich toffee nosed git who doesn't have a clue what's happening to normal people. How can he sympathise and connect with normal people and their suffering?

If he was going for Conservative leader, I would not vote. I don't and never have trusted him. From bad to worse in my opinion, so knock yourself out sunak. Who else agrees!!

Bent as the rest.

Helped bring Boris down and now casts himself as a savior. Politics sometimes disgust!

Boris said low tax, Rishi said in his resignation letter their views on what is needed didn’t match. We all know the direction of the country if he wins.

BBCScotlandNews No doubt get the London vote

Oh no, not him please😩

Definitely not shocking decision he should be kicked out of conservative party.

No thanks, rather have Boris.

Didn’t see that coming..

Nah, sorry.

Certainly has the money to buy votes!

Please god no, can we just have a emergency general election, I for one do not want him especially unelected.

Definitely NOT

Sunak has a US green card. To obtain one you must declare that it is your intention to become a US citizen. Maybe just me but I'd expect the Prime Minister to actually want and plan to remain British.

No chance.

No thank you!!! I want someone connected with the people of this country!! Not some millionaire with dubious connection!! General Election please!!!

He’s not American this week then?

A tax dodging, covid party breaching multi-millionaire is trying to become leader with the catchphrase “rebuild trust” aye… well start with paying taxes and not bullshitting the voters would be a start.
