Origin Energy has received a takeover offer from a consortium led by Brookfield Asset Management worth $18.4 billion.

The consortium is comprised of Brookfield’s managed funds and MidOcean Energy, an LNG company managed by EIG.

Under the proposal, Brookfield would acquire Origin’s energy markets business, and MidOcean would acquire the integrated gas business.

Utilities should never be privatised. Just look at ETSA then the price hikes and current rates in SA.

The government needs to stop this acquisition. Electricity needs to remain in Australian hands for security.
