Basson, 76, reveals that he has offered his help to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s government to fix any department that needs it. “I don’t want to work,” he says, “but will try to sort out an area for them without pay — I don’t want money.”

“Maybe we should all go to sleep until 2023,” the retail doyen behind much of the success of clothing chain Pep and African supermarket juggernaut Shoprite tells the FM in an interview.

Only then, he says, once the ANC’s December elective conference is done, will any real decisions be taken. ..A subscription helps you enjoy the best of our business content every day along with benefits such as articles from our international business news partners; ProfileData financial data; and digital access to the Sunday Times and TimesLive Premium.

ElanaBrown Please allow W. Basson to try and help out. Our country is a mess right now.

I suggest Department of Small business! We get this one going, then the economy can grow

TheCouncilWolf Anc too scared that he might find more corruption and thievery

We neeeeeeed him.

You can't help. You are a White.

He must 1st pay hardworking workers at shoprite OK without reducing hrs for profit-driven agenda, 32hrs per week yet they wrk 6 days per week

fowardbow So Anc are you going to accept his offer? He doesn’t even want any money for it! Why are you not accepting his help? Because he’s white? Can you honestly tell the country which couldn’t be in a bigger mess thst you won’t let him help because he’s white? Disgusting!

Eskom

Jy is te Wit, Whitey!

Not a requirement, we outsource We had guys doing pot hole for free We had guys doing traffic lights for free, something we will ne tolerate as we has Tenders to award ro mates, cause we need our x-mas

CR17

Unfortunately it's not seen as help but as making them look incompetent

I know what Ramaphosa will say - YOU’RE TOO OLD😅. Young buck Rams is a real agist.

CoruscaKhaya

AvrilPetersen1 What a kuk. Why would anyone offer to team up with organized crime like this unless they were frightfully ignorant or part of the problem?

Rets are crying foul, screaming blue murder!!!and even peddling conspiracy theories-'Stellenbosch wanna capture the State,We told you so!!!'

Let him help if he can

Mr Bassons track record speaks for itself. Pity the ANC cannot let him achieve success purely because of his complexion.

Voetsek we don't want your help Voetsek

Udume ngani lomkhulu?

Worked for the man myself and what a leader, his ideas make sense and basically everything he touches turns to gold, he can really help us.

I suggest that Mr Basson start by studying the complicated regulatory framework within which Government Departments operate e.g. Public Finance Management Act and Treasury Regulations, Public Service Act and Public Administration Management Act etc.

NiekerkSteve other day when I said SAfricans are too stubborn to let SA become like Zim, this is what I meant. The man can go live anywhere in the world but he, like dozens of other, chooses to help SA. We will force change, unlike our neighbours.

Take him up!!!!

Yuu haai ke! 🙅🏻‍♂️ He must let Cyril finish what he started together with his cabinet.

Tsek

Maybe if he had a black skin they would've allowed him to help. What this thieving criminal communist ANC government fails to see is that with their luck and our brains we can fix this country, but if you're blind you're blind and if you're deaf you're deaf not to mention stupid.

he’ll certainly make a difference

Peterman43 I am sure he knew Meyer Kahn personally. I wonder if he ever asked MK about MK's stint with SAPS. Both Ministers and Officials were very unco-operative then. It is likely they'd be even more unco-operative now and much more corrupt and incompetent. This is a fool's errant now...

No. Might find out what a stuff up the department is really in. Also Might have to change your name. It doesn't tie in with BBBBEEEE

Actually just drop the anc 🤮 🤮 🤮 and there oligarchs 🤮🤮🤮 but finmail will never

This call must be made to more people with his experience.

Unfortunately ramaphosa is on a mission to privatize SOEs, a decision taken in 1997

Basson can start by paying workers in the ShopRite and Checkers group a living wage instead of the current slave wages and use of labour brokers. Just lead by example!

We might as well give this country back to the Ngamlas because Shem abo darkie have failed

He must first go through a re-education camp.

Sorry. Not BBEE enough
