Municipalities continue to be on the receiving end of criticism that by-laws restrict informal traders. This included a ban on street vendors without a license.

BLOEMFONTEIN - ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa on Sunday called on local government to relax regulations governing the informal economy.Municipalities continue to be on the receiving end of criticism that by-laws restrict informal traders.Ramaphosa called on municipalities across the country to follow Gauteng's township economic development policies.

"A very clear message to our municipalities: as you apply your regulations, the regulations must be applied in a way that will empower our people," he said. "Those that are in the informal sector who are selling whatever wares or products that they are selling are doing so to support the livelihoods of their households."

Hundreds of local formal and informal businesses received a much-needed boost from the ANC’s 111th birthday celebrations, which drew thousands of people to the Mangaung metro.

He needs to stop electioneering, we all know that’s false promises, and actually show the nation some definitive actions

That's were he is wrong . The laws must be tight and be enforced otherwise if they are relaxed is gonna be worse than what we seeing in out towns and cities , its a mess . What CR should be saying is how best and fast he can turn the economy to it's best and clean out criminals

The regulations are there to protect and ensure people don't abuse the environment. If this is relaxed then all business related regulations must be lowered. I'm sure some companies that get fined for pollution would like a break while we at it

Oh but in honor of the celebration informal traders where told to leave the area or be fined...speaking with fork tongue again.
