Council to replace grass at 'mud bath' Piccadilly Gardens left looking like 'the Somme' after Christmas Markets

The council is set to replace grass at Piccadilly Gardens, which has been likened to a 'mud bath' and war trenches after the Christmas markets.

in order to transform the gardens into less of an eyesore, which councillor Pat Karney said was 'unavoidable' due to the huge crowds drawn to the site over the festive period. On Twitter, @WCONNOLLY2512 shared a picture of the muddied gardens, writing "Piccadilly Gardens post Xmas markets. Just a mud bath and eyesore wooden/metal structures. The gardens are no more."

Councillor and city centre spokesperson Pat Karney told the Manchester Evening News that the turf will be replaced 'as soon as possible', acknowledging the state the city park has been left in in recent weeks due to the Christmas markets being held there for another year.

Looks pretty decent to me. Dunno what the complaints are about... Probably too make Karen's drinking red wine. 😳

Returfing is great but then it'll be trodden down on St Patricks day. The drainage needs looking at so it stops getting waterlogged surely?

What another one !

Still won't replace the absolute cess pit that general area has become, it's a magnet for trouble.

Why bother? It will still be full of gangs of low-lifes.

Most of the damage appears to be down to heavy machinery

Return it to its former glory of gardens rather the concrete eye sore it is now

Never been able to get good ‘grass’ in picadilly gardens

Make it in to a park?

Can we have some flower beds as well please? 😊

Stop holding the Xmas markets there, then. This is the first year I bought nothing. Not paying those prices £7 for a drink? Hope they pulled your flies down and did the deed for that price.

Surely as they plan the build and take down of the markets in a project, the re-turf should be part of the project? It's every year this. The turf should be delivered the day the markets end, and as part of the take down, the re-turfing takes place?

Just get the spice dealers down to plant their weed. Problem solved.

Get this done then, it’s a mess
