France's finance minister urged food retailers to do more to help consumers cope with high prices, as the government leans on them to agree to sell an anti-inflation basket of everyday essential goods at knockdown prices

Others, including Auchan, have since responded by launching their own initiatives, saying there was a need to focus the basket more on fresh products such as meat, fish, fruits and vegetables.that food price inflation would remain at 13% through the first half of the year.

'Good thing we have the government looking out for us, amirite?!'

Russian sanctions blow back.🤔

Consider a strategy of selling more with less margin, as large retailers will contract consumption with large margins!

What they really mean is that they're happy to forgo a little bit of profit, to make sure you're gonna fill your tummy with high processed food, food full of sugar, fatty food, canola/seed oils, insect based food perhaps. Not gonna be whole food, got to pay full price for it.

Asking capitalists to do the right thing rarely works.

I'm sorry

Lol!! It’s unbelievable the people who responsible for the policies that caused the prices to rise are now trying to blame everyone else for the mess they created.

Damn, Biden caused inflation in France?

Politicians take the most stupid decisions and the people they are supposed to serve pay the price 🤦🏻‍♂️ An absolute shame

I thought inflation was coming down Lol

Note to U.S. grocery retailers; this government 'leaning' will come here, matter of time. Inflation isn't going away.

Reduce the taxes on the super markets then...

Makes Sense to Me 🤔

If only American leadership had the balls to say as much to US retailers. US companies have free reign to profit on the already hurting American families

Trump could fix it all in 3 months.

Yeeeey. Finally France is catching up with mu old country Argentina on it’s economic ideas. Seeing the third “worldization” of the once powerful nations, is quite amusing 🍿

so the govt causes inflation and then forces the business who is already losing money due to inflation to lower prices?

Socialism Reduce the tax and cut spendings

Isn't this what communism is all about?

Another way to say price controls. Legitimate state business

Thank Biden

Why doesn’t France bring in price caps for essential food items so ? Retailers won’t jump, they have to be pushed hard

We caused it...now you all must share in the pain...it's only 'fair'.

What is the margin for supermarkets? 3%? Less? So what is France doing- price controls?

Merde💩

Bruno Lemaire smokes too much weed

France is learning good practices from Greece AdonisGeorgiadi !

It'd be interesting to know how many people in France depend on food banks, if any, compared with the Brits!

I get frustrated when government action creates conditions of scarcity and misery, and then asks private industry to “do more,” to compensate (cover) for these grave errors in judgment.
