At a Senate Banking Committee hearing on Feb. 28, many lament America's inability to sanction China like Russia.

Ranking Member of the Senate Banking Committee Tim Scott. The IMF says Russia's economy will grow“The IMF is even predicting the Russian economy will grow next year. If this prediction holds, that's troubling to me,” said Senate Banking Committee Ranking Member Tim Scott .on Friday.

Sanctions have had effects that many people may not have seen. Sanctions removed Russia's ability to receive a bailout from the IMF or the World Bank, should it need one. Washington removed Russia from its Most Favored Nation trading status, something a handful of Senators are trying to do with China. This would greatly increase tariffs on China imports.

Interestingly, Singh also said, “Sanctions downgraded Russia's position as a leading energy supplier. By shutting down its prized Nordstream 2 pipeline and banning imports of Russian crude oil and other fuel sources, we have undercut Putin’s revenues.” He also said the squeeze on Russian fossil fuels means “we are speeding our transition to renewables” as if this is the real reason for some of these policies, especially in Europe.

There were still major carveouts for natural gas, oil, and petroleum products in U.S. and European sanctions. Geopolitical risk gave the markets a reason to drive up fuel prices. This led Russia's current account surplus to nearly double in 2022, which means an extra $100 billion. That helped Russia provide the much-needed liquidity it needed for its economy.

Russian oil export volumes fell across the E.U., Japan, Korea and several other European countries. But Russian oil export volumes increased in 2022 as China, India, and Turkey all increased their purchases. The Central Bank of Russia “took swift and decisive measures that allowed the exchange rate and the banking system to stabilize,” said Lowery.

É sério!!

Good luck with that...(Over 1billion humans)

Kkkkkk the ones on Russia never worked.

Welcome to multipolar world!

Sanctions are not very effective as there are always partner countries that help circumvent sanctions

Biden actually overestimated the power of ultimate financial nuke on Russia. It did not destroy Russia but instead totally ruin the most precious reputation of dollar and western financial institutions to the world. It shows ultimate incompetency and arrogance of the government.

Why do we want to turn every national leader into an enemy? We all compete in the world. Our relations with China produced prosperity for China and USA and good relations are good for everybody. InternationalRelations

No because American manufacturers have invested around trillion dollars in China's manufacturing and owe China hundreds of billions

🤬🤬🤬

America has to put tariffs on goods from China, as well as sanctions, to bring them to their senses but I don't think Biden will as he is too aligned with them.

中国 and Россия can survive without the US$, why are these articles still relevant ? :(

China , Russia, North Korea and Iran must be permanently sanctioned. Civilized countries must NEVER do business with them. Instead of bringing jons to China, bring it to allies like other countriels like Mexico!

Russia and China don’t need USD. I’m not sure why you guys even write about this anymore. The days of US abuse of the SWIFT network are over. BRICS and commodity backed currencies are the future.

That decided by the us economy can afford a cheap industry country we still need China , the economy of China is getting worse. It will be like USSR . One day, changes will happened inside the china
