Environment and Water Minister Tanya Plibersek says the Australian economy is still “very reliant” on minerals and mining to pay for the services and life that is expected in Australia.

“We have a commitment as a government to get to 82 per cent renewables in our energy grid by 2030 – that is a massive transformation of our energy market,” Ms Plibersek told Sky News Australia.

“Meanwhile, we are still going to see a reliance on coal and gas – this is not a sector of the economy that could be switched off overnight, even if you wanted to.

Well imagine spending $200B+ on productive investments like green tech, manufactuirng automation, vastly improving higher education access for all australians, instead of submarines that will be delivered late and blowout in costs!

But it not to sell off not to be used by Australian for our benefit, only population minnows like China , India etc ffs. 🤮🤬

Your just a hypocrite

82% renewables by 2030. Why set a target we won't achieve? Or shut down dirty get to 82% but you can't turn the lights on at home. Typical politician BS.

Plibersek makes statements like this, agreeing to the importance of fossil fuels to our way of life, and then proceeds to vote for policies that set out to destroy the fossil fuel industry. This is beyond insanity, if that is possible.

Wow now their is a revelation. So why are you and your green mates closing these industries down.

Nothing wrong with that. They are great industries.

While the boss is away, the knives get sharpened

Yes Tanya : but labour wants to destroy it m such hypocrisy Tanya u utter

With that kind of logic, Albo won’t be in the top job for long… spill

What a load of garbage. There is no climate change or global warming. We need C02 in the atmosphere. Ever wonder why farmers pump C02 into greenhouses? Because plants and trees thrive on it. We have everything in this country to sustain ourselves. Wankers seriously.

Sensible woman I am not a labor voter but she would make a better PM than Almo

Wow! Definitely earning your salary today…. FFS.

Well der. For her to even use those words says how out of touch she is and how rich she is to not have to worry about paying bills

Reaaaalllllyyyy.. gradual transition and re-training workers etc. affected has been the obvious way to switch to renewables without a massive dent in the economy. Can still make money off renewables. Der.

She’s sharp that one

26 million of us already know we are reliant on mining and sgriculture. So pleased that Tanya is catching up eith the rest of us. Can she take the Labor caucus to kindy next time so they can learn as well

Albanese is seeking to ‘diversify’ trade links for a ‘more secure’ economyAustralia is seeking to “deepen and diversify” its trade links as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese travels to India with “one of the biggest and most significant” business delegations ever assembled in Australia. “By any measure, Australia is a better place because of our large, diverse and aspirational Indian-Australian community – the fastest growing group in Australia,” Mr Albanese said at a speech during the 2023 Business Summit on Tuesday. “In 2021-22, India was only Australia’s sixth largest goods and services trading partner … we can elevate that. “Our government is seeking to deepen and diversify Australia’s trade links, greater diversity in who we trade with and greater variety in what we trade.” Mr Albanese said this would mean the Australian economy would be “more resilient and more secure” with “one in four” Australian jobs relying on international trade as he expressed his determination to create more jobs in the export industry for the global expanse of Australian companies. ‘Appears to have given up’: Albanese government should be ‘managing the economy’Deputy Liberal leader Sussan Ley says the Albanese government should be “managing the economy”. “If you don’t get the fiscal policy right, if you have $45 billion in off-budget spending, you push up inflation, and you push up interest rates,” Ms Ley told Sky News Australia. She said the government is “pursuing an agenda” that’s not related to the real needs of industry. “This is a Prime Minister that appears to have given up, that has not taken responsibility and not shown leadership,” Ms Ley said. The Deputy Opposition Leader called on the Labor government to take responsibility and show leadership by getting the fiscal settings right and spending under control.
