The bank closed earlier this year

The building of a 'lovely' former bank in a Nottinghamshire town has been put up for sale. The former NatWest bank on High Road, Beeston, closed on January 25, with the bank stating this was due to mobile and online banking reducing the number of people using the branch.

The building, which has previously been described as "lovely" by people in the town, has now been put up for sale as a vacant freehold. A brochure, put together by retail consultants BWD, outlines offers in excess of £500,000 will be considered. In the property brochure, BWD said: "The subject property is situated in a prominent, central position, on the corner of High Road and Wollaton Road, with High Road forming Beeston's main pedestrianised shopping area. Nearby national retailers include Greggs, Boots, WH Smith, Poundland and Savers amongst others."The property is split across two floors, with a main retail banking hall and consulting room, back offices, storerooms and staff amenities.

NatWest justified the closure by revealing the number of counter transactions at the bank had dropped by 70 percent between January 2019 and January 2022. The branch was also only used by three personal customers regularly in 2021, with 104 business customers using the bank regularly within the same period.

Barclays in Chilwell Road, Beeston, also shut its doors for the final time on September 9. This was similarly due to a reduction in counter transactions.
