Why the Chancellor Jeremy Hunt wants this Budget to be boring

On the one hand the current year will look far less malign than it did in the autumn. Falls in energy prices and government borrowing costs will mean a milder downturn, less immediate borrowing, and some scope for one-off giveaways.

So far, the UK economy has dealt with the simply awful energy shock sparked by Russia's invasion of Ukraine far better than expected. This could be because some consumers have been supported by extra savings during the pandemic. Or it still might prove to be a shuffling of the pain into the future through rising credit card borrowing and other types of debt.

Longer term, the government is looking to boost UK nuclear power to increase energy security, and has said it will invest £20bn in carbon capture and storage over 20 years as part of net zero targets.I would also expect a few billions of pounds in top-ups to public sector pay settlements, though this may not be a formal part of the Budget process. The government looks to be in settlement mode.

He's happy as long as the average person is totally screwed.

this individual started off trying to pave the way to NHS privatisation, now, he's the chancellor. the impoverished people of our country will be his victims again. only the already rich have nothing to fear from this man.

It won't be quite at all with the failure of 2 major banks in the US, could this be the planned collapse that brings about CBDC, digital ID and mass surveillance?

Surely it is because Austerity 1.0 saw the biggest transfer of wealth in history due to £830bn in QE while at the same time increasing the national debt to over £2 Trillion, one simple question Jeremy where did the money go as there appears to be very little to show for it?

Boring stuff keeps out of the limelight. Stealth extortion

Robbin' Hunt?

Describe in two words, broken economy, increase in taxes, tax cuts for the rich, benefits cut for the poor and lack of respect for public services? Jeremy Hunt.

Rumour as it there may be a crackdown on dole scroungers, let’s hope so people seem to get all upset about migrants getting something for nothing how about dealing with all those people in the UK who have had all the advantages in the UK but choose a life living off benefits

Is that code for being a friend of the Pet Shop Boys ?

The BBC Board should resign or be fired.

How could it now be boring, he is boring, it's more exciting to watch paint dry.

He still reminds me of Swiss Tony. I can hear him saying 'You know, preparing the budget is very much like making love to a beautiful woman...'

Sort the mortgage interest rates out!

His gaffer has just spunked up another £200m to the French..am not surprised at all

Because him and the rest of the government have robbed all the money and now run the whole UK from offshore private companies paid by British taxpayers set up to charge the same taxpayers for what they already own , god help our grandchildren they will never forgive us.

Nothing any of them say is interesting

So nobody talks about it and he can sneak through more cuts, more money given away to his mates and blame the immigrants for stealing billions of pounds by stealing your jobs.

Because if he gets too excited his thirst for human blood re-emerges.

Gary Lineker. Just thought it was a legal requirement to have him in every tweet nowadays.

Hunt's CCP funded wife told him so

The DefenceHQ budget cannot wait to be increased. Military capability takes years to come on stream. A war can happen in short order. The UK must be able to defend its interests without relying on the acquiescence of allies.
