Airline’s ultra long-haul flights are slated to begin in late 2025, but questions remain over the carbon footprint, price and effect on passengers’ bodies

Last modified on Sat 11 Mar 2023 19.02 GMThopes to run the first of its “Project Sunrise” flights – up to 20 hours non-stop from the east coast of Australia to Europe and the US east coast.”, but health and industry experts hold concerns for the passenger experience and question whether eliminating a stopover will ultimately increase aircraft emissions.

Qantas runs Boeing 787s from Perth to Europe, and has used that aircraft for a test flight on the Sydney-London route, but it says Project Sunrise will rely on the superior fuel efficiency of Airbus’s A350-1000. So far the airline has revealed more about the front end of the plane. First class will feature a 2-metre bed, personal wardrobe and 32-inch television in each suite, which will be 50% larger than the suites on its existing A380s. Business class will have generous legroom and privacy walls.

A mid-air calisthenics class was also held, with the Qantas chief executive, Alan Joyce, dancing the macarena in the aisles of the economy cabin .

The future of Melbourne to Sydney on Qantas.

Here is an idea for airlines. Clean the toilets more often or give males their very own toilet so they can per all over the floor. The thought of 20 hours of Qantas economy toilets is stomach wrenching.

I'm thinking about waiting for EV planes for CO2 and safety reasons. A nice train trip across the world if I need to travel. I've met frequent fliers and it seems unnecessary with tech solutions for work. Seems more of a status/ego rubbing lifestyle.

This is also Schiemer. Won’t know for sure until we start studying passengers.

The only reason for a stop over is for commercial purposes intended for the stop over destination, never for passenger comfort. If I can travel from point A to point Z in the shortest period of time, I'd do that. Stop overs are a waste of time.

I'm a regular flyer both to Asia and Europe. I simply cannot see the appeal of a 20 hour flight - in economy, surely you'd arrive absolutely shattered? Give me a short stopover every time - Stretch your legs, get the creases out of your back, have a decent coffee. QANTAS

I bet the flights will have safety mandates calling for a reduced capacity so paxes have more room, but Joyce will fill to the maximum, not the average. Non stop flights from USA to Australia are over 12 hours, I think 16? And they used to fly into Sydney Airport with priority!

You disgusting little plebs. Of COURSE YOUR emissions matter more than the rich and their private planes. Now get back to economy, we’ve got two stop overs of 8 hours each.

Qantas is cheap and nasty. Not flown them for over a decade. Far better airline choices to make with superior products. Singapore, Cathay, Emirates & Qatar, to name four. Giving Qantas your money is a privilege according to the disreputable wealthy leprechaun. Best to avoid.

so I, unlike you lot apparently, am poor. I actually fly economy. Even if I could afford to upgrade, I look at the prices & don't see good value. I'm hear to tell you, 20 hours is far better than 24 hours and 2 flights with 4 hours at a stupid airport.

You're complaining about a minor inconvenience that allows to finish a journey in a matter of hours that took 6 months just a few lifetimes ago. Get over yourself. Try a little perspective. We wonder why the planet is broken and then we get this pathetic nonsense. LookUp

It’s absolutely ridiculous and yet ‘analysts’ continue to laud Alan Joyce as some kind of aviation messiah. 😤🤬

🤮 fresh hell

Are they actually looking for bags in the air ?

and that’s before you get off the tarmac

How airlines rely on your loyalty to make moneyAnalysts say loyalty could even play a role in pushing the share price of Qantas from the $6.59 it was trading at on Friday morning to around $10. Loyalty - you must be kidding. Out and out thieves.
