A former Amazon recruiter shares 5 tips on finding a job during big tech layoffs and a tough job market

If you want to land a tech job in 2023, Mustain says updating your resume and cold-applying won't be enough.The economy appears to be careening towards a full on recession,tens of thousands of people, and billionaires are advising tech leadership to fire even more staff.

Showing scope and impact in your jobs means quantifying your experience with results of how you financially impacted a business. This can be increasing revenue, decreasing costs, or improving processes which typically result in both. This small shift has allowed some of my clients to go from applying to dozens of jobs to netting multiple job offers. To command multiple offers, you must demonstrate that you are worth multiple times over the investment of your salary. LinkedIn has become an increasingly important tool for job seekers in recent years, and that trend is only going to continue in 2023. If you don't have a LinkedIn profile yet, now's the time to create one.

The best way to build your brand is to create posts and articles on LinkedIn, focusing on your thought leadership inside of your expertise. Find people you'd like to connect with, comment on their LinkedIn posts and articles, send connection requests, and build up enough rapport to invite them to 'virtual coffees' to get to know them better.

In the past, networking has often been seen as a transactional activity — attending events and collecting business cards and asking for favors. But these days, relationship building is the new networking.
