Investment planning can often be seen as a luxury for the financially stable but advisers say that it's especially important for those who are starting out in their careers or are struggling with debt.

CTVAtlantic Yeah, then there's food

But what about expenses like food or daycare or cocaine

CTVAtlantic Lol It's a slow process , when rent and basic living leaves you broke .How about getting the interest rates and fees under control . That would help big time but banks and corporate rule the world .

Yet the Liberals are spending foolishly, might want to go knocking on their door

CTVAtlantic And how does a low imcome earner expect to do that I am low income and I can barely get my necessities let alone try and make decent payments on my debts.

experts? wtf?

CTVAtlantic Ha!! Easier said than done!!

Should be the priority of the Liberal government as well how's that working.

Maybe sockboy & co could try & stop pissing away taxpayers $$$ then stop taxing the shit out of us!

And how exactly do low income earners earn enough to not be debt ridden ...if they want some semblance of s life well lived?

Lower the ducking income tax for people again cause if food and utilities go up but wages do not we are inevitably going to continue to be in debt of held at the same standard over and over. .imagine if wages went up with inflation each year? For every 2% of inflation we get 1%

'Experts' is slang for assholes apparently in this particular instance...

Well excuse me for a) enjoying utilities b ) Good and c) not making enough (& I get paid 16.25$/hr but that's more taxes I pay now too...)

How about getting the credit card companies under control and stop with the ridiculous interest rates

CTVAtlantic What a dumb, inconsiderate headline

What about high income workers who just have massively more debt. Just as close to collapse. What a biased snobby statement to make about low income workers. Big houses, big debt, big cars, big payments. It’s all relative. Don’t point at low income workers like they are stupid.

And which “experts” are these? Ones who earn a great deal of money to have some left over? Or the ones living day to day hoping and praying that their cars start, that there’s enough left over for food or heat or even clothing? It doesn’t take an Expert to figure this out.

Maybe if banks didn’t overcharge on bank fees, interest fees, cc fees, people could pay them down. Big banks want to keep you poor & in debt to them. Let’s tell it like it is. 🤑🤑🤑

And the federal government too

Wow, this is blind to why the debt could have happened in the first place and the structural context in which low income workers may be functioning. Low income can mean minimum wage and minimum wage is NOT a living wage. As if the 'hamster wheel' is controllable by the worker 🙄

I thought house hold debt balanced itself? You know like the federal budget.

Experts check, reassert water is wet.

The economy will take hit in short term but long term better for Canada i am doing this now

Paying Trudeau's carbon tax and more in worthless CPP makes that difficult.

The reason most are in debt is because they are low income.....no excess money to pay off debt

It took a panel of 27 experts 2 years to find this new knowledge at a mere $250K per year.

Making a system that doesnt force ppl 2 get credit cards & rely on a credit system would reduce personal debt. The system creates the credit 2 put ppl in debt in the first place, get rid of credit & credit cards & u remove debt. Get no fee refill money packs

We're at a fork in the road at this point - do you pay down debt assuming our economy and society will survive never ending socialist policies? Or do you double down and spend like crazy assuming we'll all be slaves to the gov in the next 25 years? It's a tough call.

Well duh...but low income means you have very little left each month to pay down debt. Everyone wishes they could be debt free..i dont think one person enjoys paying interest only and getting nowhere with debt

'Experts' clearly have no clue as to the reality facing families. Media DEMANDS they be in touch 24/7 every second or be 'bad parents' for letting kids run free. That cost alone is sinking families, never mind clothing and food. On 14 an hour, dog ford doing families direct harm

Sounds like good old common sense until you realize that paying down debt requires having the funds to do so. Some low income workers budget well and don’t overextend themselves meaning they have that leeway. Most either because of choice of circumstance do not.

How? Most people are only a few paycheques away from serious problems. That includes the middle class. Every year everything gets more expensive yet wages don’t increase all that much. Now add the carbon tax. Most folks are just trying to survive.

When people live paycheck to paycheck and unforeseen expenses crop up how do you think it gets paid for.... It's rauquettering banks with ridiculous interest rates on CC's that don't help people like this get their balances paid down...

Follow the leader of the country, just spend spend spend, and then rip of your people. The greatest leaders always lead by example.

How the fuck do you think ppl in poverty will do that? Every single cent is counted for & then some. Poverty is not a choice & the only solution for them having money to pay off debt is to have a living wadge. Stop acting like poor ppl don't want to pay off debt or save, we can't

Experts, eh? In what fields or categories are they experts... being a low income person?! I doubt it! SpendADayInMyShoes

They haven’t a clue...

What financial genius came to that conclusion? Surely it would be more cost effective too take a Caribbean vacation or buy a new car or a larger house.

It should...but having a roof over my head and food on the table for my family will forever be my main priority.

That's all well and good, but I think the real priority for low-income people is paying for food and a roof over their heads.

Really with what extra money? The carbon tax scam just took another .05 of a $1 on everything one buys when government already taxed that same $1 by .43. You make it sound like we are all just rolling in cash. If we had cash we wouldn't be in debt in first place.

Ask the experts where the money is going to come from if they are low income earners, many need credit to survive. Experts my ass. They actually pay people to come up with this shit?
