OPR hike encourages govt to spend wisely, says Rafizi

Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli says Bank Negara Malaysia’s overnight policy rate hike is one of the instruments used to control the cash flow in the economy. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, May 8, 2023.

Commenting on the central bank’s decision to raise the OPR by 25 basis points to 3% last week, he said the move will increase the cost of loans, thus inadvertently, the government will have to manage its expenditures more efficiently.
