Zafrul to take the lead for businesses through Umno

PETALING JAYA: Umno has established a secretariat to oversee and empower Malay entrepreneurs in the halal industry, led by Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz as its chairman.

In a statement, Tengku Zafrul said the secretariat comprised representatives from entrepreneurs, corporate sectors, NGOs and Umno. “It is established to provide a platform for the party to speak up on affairs for entrepreneurs of the halal industry to dignify the economy of Malays through the empowerment of entrepreneurs in the halal industry,” he said after chairing its first meeting at Menara Dato Onn in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

“At this meeting, the secretariat committee members have also agreed to encourage the involvement of professionals and successful entrepreneurs from various backgrounds and ages to contribute ideas and views to ensure the agendas are successfully implemented,” he said while thanking Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi for the appointment, and welcoming Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Mohamad as deputy chairman.
