Councilman John Courage made the motion to remove Wells Fargo, disagreeing with others that doing so would be unfair since other banks have checkered pasts.

Wells Fargo’s Joe Atkinson makes a last-minute effort before the San Antonio City Council votes to remove them from a list of city bond underwriters during a regular session Thursday.City Council members voted to nix Wells Fargo Bank from the list of underwriters it can use in bond sales over concerns about the financial giant’s consumer banking violations.

“I don’t think this is a company that we should reward with trusting our public funds in their hands,” Courage added.over violations involving auto loans, mortgages, and personal bank accounts.City Council torn over whether to do business with Wells Fargo after $3.7 billion settlement The bank was one of 20 financial firms that city staff recommended as part of the financial underwriting pool for the next three to six years.
