The London-based startup just raised $3 million to grow the company and enter Germany.A mobility startup that organizes commuter bus routes for staffers at companies like supermarket chain Lidl, clothing retailer Next, and British postal service Royal Mail has raised £2.3 million in fresh funds.
CEO Alex Shapland-Howes, a former math teacher and education charity worker, cofounded the company after seeing how transport can be a barrier to work. Opportunities a 20-minute drive away are difficult to access for a person who can't drive or can't afford to drive, living in a town where the bus route has been cut, Shapland-Howes said.
Employers can choose to absorb costs themselves or pass them on to employees. If the latter, RideTandem allows flexible payments so users can defer until payday. Seats are booked and paid for via the app.
