Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said it would be unreasonable to bring in investments worth hundreds of billions of ringgit if wages remained stagnant.
“It is unreasonable for our workers to be paid wages at the same level as in the 1980s and 1990s,” he said in his address in conjunction with National Day on Wednesday . Anwar said that despite facing economic constraints, the government is drafting a change of salary system and adjustments for civil servants. The Prime Minister said efforts were being made to strengthen the economy, adding that a mid-term review of the 12th Malaysia Plan would be carried out soon.
“We will not only be evaluating the earlier plans, but will do the necessary and make changes so that there will be a shift in growth and development,” he added.
