Stocks in Asia were set to see opening gains on Monday following a report that China is offering to lower tariffs on certain U.S. products as part of a trade deal with America.

div > div.group > p:first-child"> Nikkei futures pointed to a higher open for the Nikkei 225 in Japan. The Nikkei futures contract in Chicago was at 21,850, as compared to the benchmark index's last close at 21,602.69.The Wall Street Journal reported Sunday that the U.S. and China are"in the final stage of completing a trade deal," with Beijing offering to lower tariffs on U.S. products in categories ranging from chemicals to autos.

A summit between the two leaders could happen sometime in March, according to both Bloomberg and the Journal. Some of the closely-watched issues include the expected passing of a new foreign investment law prohibiting forced technology transfer and illegal government"interference" in foreign business practices, coming as Beijing and Washington attempt to strike a deal on trade.
