U.S. stocks struggle for direction to begin the final quarter of 2023, unable to shake off concerns about rising Treasury yields.

U.S. stocks were putting in a mixed performance early Monday as Treasury yields resumed their march higher, after lawmakers over the weekend averted a shutdown of the federal government.

What’s happening Stocks closed out a losing September and third quarter on Friday. The S&P 500 fell 4.9% in September to post its worst month of 2023 and declined 3.7% for the quarter. The Dow and Nasdaq also suffered quarterly declines.
