A “disgusting” amount of used items has been dumped outside one of The Salvation Army’s Adelaide’s stores — all of which will now have to be sent to landfill. Staff returned to work at the Salisbury store, in Adelaide’s north, after the public holiday long weekend to find a small mountain of items, including furniture and baby clothes, piled outside the store. That’s despite signage advising people not to leave items outside the allocated bins.

“We’ve had soiled nappies and those sorts of things before “Also, it’s a detractor for people coming into the city centre.” Charitable Recycling Australia, the national network for charitable recycling and reuse, estimates that $18 million is spent annually in waste management and disposal costs for dumped and unusable donations.
