A good Samaritan had his luxury car stolen when he stopped to help a group of people in a fiery crash on a Melbourne freeway. Police said a car with stolen registration plates side-swiped a truck on the Princes Fwy in Laverton North just after midnight on Thursday, then rolled and crashed into a barrier.

A man stopped next to the freeway to help the group, but then when he spoke to them he was threatened and his Mercedes sedan was stolen. He was not physically injured and investigations into the incident are ongoing. Police have urged anyone who spots a black 2012 Mercedes with the registration 1SR9OX to call triple-0 immediately.
