Formula One originated out of Europe and has a huge, and dedicated, fan base overseas. COTA said a large portion of ticketholders for F1 weekend come from outside of Texas, and in some cases, outside of the U.S. With the large influx of visitors in the Capital City, area hotels are benefiting and said this weekend contributes greatly to their annual generated revenue.
Praporski said his hotel has homed drivers, crews, teams, spectators, and media crews from throughout the globe over the last few days. He said the rates for rooms around this time tend to spike, so with hundreds of guests booking their stay at his hotel over the course of a week, it contributes hundreds of thousands to the Fairmont.
The learning experience he's talking about: Winning, a Leadership Accelerator Program. "The program is all about teaching executives how to execute, and how to execute consistently, to win in their marketplace and we're going to do that by teaching you lessons from auto racing and actually putting you on the track here," said Ruse.
