"On the plus side, workplace flexibility has created a more inclusive labour force, allowing thousands of women and older Australians to join the workforce," Mr Pickering said.
As Mr Pickering points out, some of it represents a greater demand for a less stressful work-life balance, with fewer Australians working overly long hours. "Unfortunately, fewer hours and increased part-time work hasn't been a boon for everyone. In fact, some of those working part-time are doing so involuntarily," Mr Pickering noted.
Once again, younger, casual workers are getting a rougher deal. More hours, doesn't necessarily translate to greater fulfillment.
Absolutely and the unions are to blame. My person experience I was in the retail unions when Shorten was leader and he negotiated our rights away bit by bit with every eba. Last one was good for older workers who already had full time workers
True. But this isnt just about youth. Its also about parents of the next gen of workers also being relegated part time. Its also about the parents who want fulltime to support farm income but cant get it because of rural business decline, or cant leave the farm.
