A Queensland town’s water supply is undrinkable after firefighters’ need for intensely flowing water while fighting bushfires dislodged chemicals lining the pipes. Residents of Midge Point in the Mackay region have been reporting their water turning black and brown this week.
Queensland town’s drinking water supply turns black. “It’s been like this for two days now. I have a baby who I will not bathe in this,” one woman said on Facebook on Sunday. Residents have been advised not to drink it, with Mackay Regional Council sending a water truck to the town. But the council says using the water to bathe or wash some clothes is OK. “Council advises to not consume darkly coloured water at this stage,” Mackay Regional Council said in a statement.
