They're a distinctive part of the Manchester Christmas Markets experience - but you'll be paying a bit more for your mug this year

The design of the famous Manchester Christmas Markets mugs for 2023 has been revealed. But the collectible mugs have gone up in price this year.

This year the mug will feature four different festive Nutcracker designs, with what the council describe as a "distinctive and on-trend Scandi feel". They feature four cartoon soldier faces, two with large moustaches, and a colourful geometric design. "This does mean the price to customers has gone up, but as ever there's absolutely no obligation on people to buy a mug, they can simply 'rent' it as many visitors to the markets do every year and then return their empties to get their deposit back."

Determined not to disappoint festive visitors this year, market bosses have now ordered in 170,000 of the special edition 2023 mugs to try and help make sure visitors to Manchester's Christmas markets can get their hands on one of the mugs if they want one, whenever they make their visit. This year's mugs are already proving a hit with visitors to the ice-rink in Cathedral Gardens, where a selection of the Christmas Markets stalls are already open ahead of the full launch on November 10.
