The Wiggles have been left “deeply disappointed” that their music has been used to drive homeless people away from a beachside shelter. It emerged on Wednesday that the band’s track Hot Potato had been playing around the clock at the Graham Bricknell Memorial Music Shell in Bunbury, about 170km south of Perth, to deter people from congregating in that spot.

Wiggles respond to Bunbury Council’s use of music to deter homeless. Mayor Jasen Miguel argued the measure “happens at all places across Australia and across the world” to discourage anti-social behaviour. But a spokesperson for the Wiggles said the city’s approach was out of step. “The Wiggles’ music is created to bring joy and happiness to children and families around the world, and we are deeply disappointed to hear that it is being used in any other way,” the band representative said.
